Airborne Mobile, 3rd in the 2006 Deloitte Canadian Technology Fast 50 with revenue growth of over 33 000% over five years, specializes in content for wireless platforms: from screen wallpaper to ringtones as well as video clips and games.

 

Artificial Mind & Movement (A2M), Canada's leading developer of independent video games, employs 500 people at its studios in Montréal and Santiago, Chile. Since 1992, A2M has produced 70 games on all existing platforms, selling over 28 million copies worldwide.

Beenox Studios (Activision),
a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision since 2005, has more than 275 employees at its studio in Québec City. It ranks among the world's top 50 video game developers according to a March 2008 report by Game Developer Research.

Bluberi Gaming Technologies brings together professionals specializing in video games and casino management systems for the global gaming industry.

 

DTI Software has become a world leader in the development and distribution of interactive software for in-flight entertainment.

 

Electronic Arts (EA) produces video games for consoles, computers and wireless platforms.

 

Eidos Montréal, the latest major player to announce that it is opening a facility in Montréal, expects to hire 350 employees by 2010 and plans to develop its own QA centre. The title "Deus Ex", scheduled for release in the fall of 2009, will be the first major production from the Montréal studio.

 

Frima Studio, located in Québec City, develops a broad array of interactive learning and entertainment products. While a substantial portion of production is for the Internet, Frima Studio also produces games and software for wireless platforms, interactive television, personal computers, game consoles and portable game handsets. Frima Studio acquired Humagade, another Québec game company, in early 2008. Plans are to hire another 150 employees over the next three years, up from the current workforce of 135.

 

In fall 2009, Funcom opened a Montréal facility to develop and publish massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs). The studio plans to hire between 100 and 150 people by 2011.

 

Gameloft, founded in 1999 and located in Montréal since 2000, develops and publishes electronic games for wireless platforms. Gameloft creates its own games as well as developing games for others.

 

Humagade, in the Québec City region, creates games for wireless telephones. Humagade was acquired by Frima Studio in February 2008.

 

Ingénio, formed in December 1998 by the research and development arm of Loto-Québec (government organization charged with operating games of chance and lotteries in Québec). Its chief activity is the creation and development of new multimedia lottery products.

 

Logiciels Mistic develops games for DS and Wii consoles. It has already sold over a million copies of its games worldwide.

 

Sarbakan, based in Québec City, is a world-class digital design studio. Besides developing original projects, the firm offers content owners, producers and advertising agencies a full range of creative and production services for the Web and TV markets. It also participates in the production of games for consoles and mobile platforms.

 

Studios Longtail of Québec City creates games for Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and Xbox 360 consoles and for iPhone and iPod Touch.

 

Tribal Nova is a high-profile company in the development and operation of interactive content and virtual worlds for on-demand video and games for children ages 3 to 12. Tribal Nova announced a strategic collaboration with the U.S. public broadcaster PBS in January 2008 for the creation of the educational website "Kids Play!".


Ubisoft is one of the world's leading designers and publishers of video games. Its Montréal studio alone employs over 1,800 people, a number which should grow to 3,000 by 2013 and produces close to 50% of the titles in the Ubisoft group's catalogue. Ubisoft is also represented in Québec (more than 200 employees). In February 2007, the company announced major investments in a new studio dedicated to digital animation.
