Mines, Metals and Materials: Unequalled Resources and Know-how

Investissement Québec promotes Québec's unique advantages to attract mining and metal processing companies. Québec's operating costs (among the lowest in North America), available and highly qualified labour force, competitive energy costs and attractive tax incentives are among the many benefits available to companies.

Investissement Québec boasts a number of achievements in mineral exploration, mine development, and the production and processing of metals, particularly aluminum. We also support companies in the field of leading-edge specialty materials-light metals, composites, new ceramics, refractory or heat-resistant metals, superalloys, plastics, technical textiles and others-particularly for the aerospace, land transportation, construction and industrial equipment industries.

Through financial assistance, Investissement Québec supports industrial applications for these new materials, whether metals, ceramics, composites, polymers or glass. We are also targeting nanotechnologies, which are being used with increasing frequency, particularly in the automobile and aeronautics, electronics, communications, chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Québec is already in a position to compete with the best nanotechnology research in the world. About 40 companies operate in this field in Québec.

Energy, Environment and Chemicals: Key Industries in the Québec Economy

Investissement Québec has been actively involved in the chemical, petrochemical and energy industries for many years and is now very active in the environment sector.

In chemicals, we focus on the fine-chemical, petrochemical and specialty niches. In energy, we assist our partners with power generation projects harnessing wind power, biomass cogeneration and other sources. The manufacture of specialty components and equipment for wind energy is another target area, as are niches involving water, air, soil, waste matter and cleantech.

The environmental sector is well positioned to expand and benefit from growing interest in clean technologies, responsible resource management and the treatment and control of all types of emissions. To do so, it must take certain transformative measures.
