Creation of Ressources Québec, a New Investissement Québec Subsidiary
Major investments in mineral and hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation
With the creation of Ressources Québec, the Québec government plans to invest approximately $1.2 billion in a range of projects by companies in the mining and hydrocarbon sectors.
Ressources Québec constitutes a new source of capital to support investors that are attracted by the business possibilities for the responsible development of Québec's natural resources. These investments will enable Quebecers to profit from the exploitation of their natural resources.
Ressources Québec's portfolio includes $236 million of existing investments and $250 million of additional capital.
Ressources Québec will also conduct financial analyses of mining and hydrocarbon projects on behalf of the Capital Mines Hydrocarbures fund.
Any profits generated by the fund's equity interests will accrue to the fund and then be reinvested in other projects related to the exploitation of Québec's below-ground resources.
"Conditions have never been better for major investment in mineral and hydrocarbon exploration," declared Clément Gignac, the Minister of Natural Resources. "The Québec mineral sector has greatly profited from growth in the metals markets in recent years; with the creation of Ressources Québec, we have even more ways of passing along those benefits to Quebecers."
