Montréal, October 16, 2014  ROOT Data Center is pleased to announce the completion of construction of phase 1 of their Montréal data centre. The centre has been designed to support 500 server racks and 5 MW of power at project completion. Phase 1, which comprises 250 server racks and 1 MW power, has been completed on time and on budget.

“There is a demand from companies in Greater Montréal for a world-class Tier 3 data centre provider with 100% uptime and competitively priced hosting services,” explained Jason van Gaal, founder and CEO of ROOT Data Center. “We can meet these needs thanks to our next-generation cooling technology; more than 60% of our capacity is already pre-sold.”

The region’s sole Tier 3 data centre with high-capacity cooling, ROOT Data Center uses innovative, energy-efficient and reliable technology that did not exist five years ago.

“Telecom services, particularly data centres, are seeing robust growth in Greater Montréal. The cost of real estate and hydro give the region a distinct advantage that attracts new companies. With the arrival of ROOT Data Center, we welcome a new player that will enable local technology companies to extend their markets,” said Dominique Anglade, President and CEO of Montréal International.

“ROOT Data Center offers clients a unique technology that uses half as much energy as the competition, and helps reduce costs significantly. This new centre is a definite advantage for technology companies that are seeking hosting services. This helps ensure that our companies have a more competitive place on the market and we are proud to be involved in this innovative project,” said Jacques Daoust, Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports.
