The Plan Nord seeks to promote sustainable, integrated development of the area’s economic potential, particularly in the mining sector.
Québec already ranks among the world’s top ten mineral producers, thanks to its tremendous ore (gold, silver and iron) and industrial (silica and graphite) mineral potential, and it is known for its primary metal manufacturing. Strategic metals such as lithium and rare earth elements are also found in Northern Québec.
In addition, despite all the major projects under way, only 40% of Northern Québec’s mineral potential has been identified.
