Technicolor’s Moving Picture Company (MPC) Opens Studio in Montréal
Québec: Global Hub for the Visual Effects Industry
Technicolor, a world leader in visual effects and post-production, has chosen Montréal as the site for its new 25,000-square-foot studio. To be located in Old Montréal, the studio will operate under the Moving Picture Company (MPC) name, and is expected to create 70 jobs in the first year and close to 130 over three years.
Technicolor joins other studios like British company Framestore and French Mikros, which recently set up facilities in Québec, and local trailblazers like Rodeo Fx, Hybride and Vision globale.
The MPC Montréal team will be working on visual effects for X-Men: Days of Future Past, a film shot in Montréal last summer, and two Disney films—Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall.
For this project, Technicolor will receive a $1.2-million loan from the Québec government, administered by Investissement Québec. The tax benefits involved are assessed at $7 million over five years.
