Derichebourg sets up North American headquarters in Greater Montréal

500 Jobs to Be Created over Five Years in Québec’s Environmental Sector

Montréal, December 2, 2015 – In order to meet the needs of the Québec market in waste collection, transport and processing, Derichebourg Environment has announced it is setting up its North American headquarters in Anjou, a borough of Greater Montréal. The company expects to create a total of 500 jobs over five years in Québec. The new subsidiary of the European leader in household waste collection will bring together physical and human resources for household waste collection in two Montréal boroughs: Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie and Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

The announcement was made by the Mayor of Montréal and President of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, Denis Coderre, during his mission to France for the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), being held from November 30 to December 11 in Paris.

“Communities need to grapple with a smaller budget for waste collection while improving user services. Municipalities are looking for service providers that can innovate and provide competitive offerings,” declared Thomas Derichebourg, President of Derichebourg Canada Environment. “That’s why Derichebourg Environment is looking to accelerate its growth internationally and, more specifically, in Canada, by making its Montréal subsidiary the Group’s biggest in North America.”

Derichebourg has committed to a long-term research and development policy to create sustainable solutions for end-of-life goods processing that meets, and exceeds, European waste recovery objectives.

“With the arrival of a new player like Derichebourg, Québec’s metropolis is strengthening its position in waste diversion and skills development in the area of waste collection and processing,” declared Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal. “The City of Montréal always prioritizes the effective, efficient public services so critical to economic growth, generating the greatest possible benefits for our community and optimizing the well-being of all citizens,” added Mayor Coderre.

Montréal International, jointly with Investissement Québec, has supported the France-based Derichebourg in setting up locally. “The waste collection and processing market is a growing one all over the world. Greater Montréal can now count on the targeted, cutting-edge expertise of a new player that has been recognized in Europe and can share its know-how with academic, institutional and industrial partners in Québec,” explained Élie Farah, Vice-President of Greater Montréal Investment with Montréal International.

“This new establishment will strengthen Québec’s economy and that of the Greater Montréal area. Together with our business development partners, we engaged in productive discussions with Derichebourg, which effectively highlighted our competitive advantages. This relationship is on track to develop further and we plan to fully support the company during its expansion in Québec,” concluded Pierre Gabriel Côté, President and CEO of Investissement Québec.

Derichebourg Environment has operations across France
(Paris, Ile de France, Marseille, Caen) as well as in Italy (Turin, Milan, Florence, Sardinia), Morocco (Rabat, Marrakech), and Réunion in the Indian Ocean.
