Major aerospace projects for Québec

52nd International Paris Air Show – Le Bourget

Paris, June 20, 2017 – Espace Québec was abuzz with promising announcements for the Québec aerospace sector at the 52nd International Paris Air Show – Le Bourget. Two major new investments involving Zodiac Aerospace and F. List were unveiled, as well as a new contract with Altitude Aerospace, and an important cooperation agreement between Aéro Montréal and Gyeongnam Technopark.

Dominique Anglade, Minister of the Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy, participated in the announcements as part of the Québec trade mission currently underway at the international air show. Minister Anglade is accompanying a record-breaking Québec delegation of over 50 organizations and some 120 participants.

 

Zodiac Aerospace
The Government of Québec will provide $5 million in funding for an estimated $21.3 million project by the Montréal division of Zodiac Aerospace, a Québec subsidiary of French group Zodiac Aerospace. The goal of the project is to acquire production and automation equipment for manufacturing cabin interior structures for business aircraft. The project will create and maintain 300 jobs.

 

F. List
The Québec government will also contribute $1.2 million to F. List for the construction of a plant to produce wood veneer sheets for aircraft interiors. The project is evaluated at $8.6 million and will create more than 100 jobs.

 

Altitude Aerospace
Altitude Aerospace, a company specializing in engineering for in-service airplanes, has been designated a Design Approval Organization (DAO) by Transport Canada. Moreover, the company has landed a contract with Airbus to develop solutions on conducting major repairs on the entire in-service Airbus fleet. This will create new jobs in Montréal.

 

Cooperation agreement between Aéro Montréal and Gyeongnam Technopark
Québec aerospace cluster Aéro Montréal signed a major cooperation agreement with Gyeongnam Technopark, a South Korean tech innovation organization. The agreement is meant to boost ties between Québec and South Korean businesses. Joint seminars and conferences will be held to spur dialogue.

 

Promotional video
At Espace Québec, Minister Anglade presented a new promotional video for the Québec aerospace Open a new windowsector to more than 100 representatives from international and Québec organizations. The video, which featured contributions from across the sector, will be used by Québec businesses as well as the Québec government and its partners. It will help raise the sector’s international profile and bolster Québec’s position as a world leader over the coming years.

Highlights :

 

  • With some 205 companies, including about 15 prime contractors, first-tier partners, and world-renowned audit and heavy maintenance specialists, Québec creates more than 39,000 specialized jobs and generates over 70% of Canadian R&D.

  • The projects by Zodiac Aerospace Open a new windowand F. List Open a new windowwere conducted with the support of Investissement Québec Open a new window(IQ). 2016–2017 was a record year for foreign investments in Québec, thanks in part to IQ, which helped bring in 65 projects worth $1.5 billion in all.
  • The Government of Québec unveiled the 2016–2026 Québec Aerospace Strategy Open a new windowin May of 2016. Financing operations totalling $510 million have been earmarked over five years to roll out the strategy, which should generate nearly $3 billion in investments. This strategy confirms the Québec aerospace industry’s status as one of the most innovative, competitive, and diversified sectors in the world.
