Three Major Expansion Projects in Boisbriand

Kaeser Compressors, Kontron and Raufoss investing millions of dollars and creating dozens of jobs

Boisbriand, November 26, 2020 – The vibrant community of Boisbriand, located in Greater Montréal, has stolen the spotlight again with the announcement of three separate expansion projects. Kaeser Compressors, Kontron and Raufoss are in different industries but all three companies have doubled down on the City of Boisbriand to pursue their growth. These new investments, focused on innovation, technology and Industry 4.0, will create some 75 jobs over the next three years.

Kaeser Compressors celebrates 100 years of operation
Kaeser Compressors, a world leader in compressors and compressed air systems, will boost its warehousing capacity by 50% with its new expansion. Over the past years, the company has chosen Boisbriand for its Canadian head office by setting up its service centre, engineering office and warehouse. “Kaeser Kompressoren has been around for 100 years. Our success can no doubt be explained by our drive to innovate. That’s why we are currently counting on technological innovation to lead the Industry 4.0 trend in the compressed air industry. With this sizeable investment, we are well positioned to continue our growth path for many years to come” explains Harold Wagenknecht, President of Kaeser Compressors Canada. The company, which has been in Boisbriand for 25 years, has experienced growth from the coast to coast; Kaeser also recently made major investments in its West Coast Vancouver location.

Kontron’s expansion projected to generate 29 full-time jobs
Kontron is known around the world for designing and manufacturing industrial computers for demanding applications—autonomous vehicles, mobile networks, industrial automation, aviation, defence and healthcare. Over the next three years, 29 jobs will be created as a result of Kontron’s expansion in Boisbriand, where its product development centre is located as well as its North American production centre. “Kontron chose Boisbriand to support one of its most important global hubs. The quality of the workforce and the regional infrastructure allow us to further develop our most promising markets, such as the autonomous vehicle segment,” says Robert Courteau, General Manager, Kontron Canada.

Raufoss: $17.5M and 45 jobs for the automotive industry
Raufoss, well known in the automotive industry for its aluminum suspension components, announces the creation of 45 jobs with this new phase of expansion. After making a considerable investment of $50 million over the last two years, Raufoss is still forging ahead and investing an additional $17.5 million in its Boisbriand plant. “As we are going through unprecedented times, Raufoss Canada is proud of its achievement. We are still a global exporter/manufacturer that remains competitive and we are keeping jobs in Québec,” says Jean Meredith, CEO, Raufoss Canada. This is the fourth phase of expansion for the Boisbriand plant, since it was established in 2001.

“This news is a tribute to Boisbriand’s and Québec’s attractiveness for international investment. In this period of economic recovery, the government is staying the course on its objectives of encouraging innovation, automation and exports,” said Eric Girard, Minister of Finance and Member for Groulx.

“This is excellent news for regional and international economic development. These three companies have contributed to the economic and social vitality of our community for dozens of years already. I feel a deep sense of pride knowing that these companies, which are industry leaders in their respective fields, have chosen to establish here and pursue their growth here. Not only do these companies create jobs in our community, but they also attract new talent to Boisbriand. I welcome their decision to make further investments to support their development and growth, to innovate, to create jobs for the citizens of our city and our region,” states Marlene Cordato, Mayor of Boisbriand.

“Montréal International supports subsidiaries in the 82 municipalities of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal. So we are especially proud to support the growth of three companies that are solidly rooted in Boisbriand. These investments help to strengthen the manufacturing sector in the Montréal North Shore,” says Stéphane Paquet, President and CEO, Montréal International.

“Our Investissement Québec International team is ready to attract and maintain foreign investment in our regions, while looking to diversify the origin of these investors as much as possible,” says Hubert Bolduc, President of Investissement Québec international. “In addition to creating new jobs, these expansions will have concrete and sustainable spinoffs for the Boisbriand community and the greater metropolitan region. We are proud that they have chosen to invest in Québec in the long term and, with the help of Investissement Québec—CRIQ experts, we will always be available to advise them through their journey of innovation and technological transformation.”
