Gameloft expands its operations in greater Montréal - Minister Élaine Zakaïb and Montréal International Applaud the Growth of this Mobile Gaming Pioneer

Montréal, February 5, 2014 – Élaine Zakaïb, Minister for Industrial Policy and the Banque de développement du Québec, today joined Dominique Anglade, President and CEO of Montréal International, in hailing the decision by Gameloft, a pioneer in digital games for mobile platforms and one of the industry’s five largest global developers and publishers, to expand its greater Montréal subsidiary. The company’s plan is to continue developing its centre of expertise in response to the logistical and IT needs associated with the ever-growing demands of the online gamer community.

“Thanks to enterprising companies like Gameloft Montréal, Québec has become a global centre of excellence in the digital entertainment industry. Gameloft is continually innovating and diversifying its service offering in order to remain competitive in several constantly evolving niches,” pointed out Zakaïb. “For our government, it is imperative to support this industry. It employs one of the world’s most qualified and experienced labour forces, and it invests massively in research and development.”

“Gameloft is a trailblazer in its field, which is why I’m immensely proud to point out that its Montréal-based division fosters the development of new growth niches in a constantly changing market. A genuinely innovative enterprise that has been impressing us for close to 15 years, Gameloft is notable for the quality of its production and the great popularity it enjoys among its clientele,” declared Anglade. “What we have here is a unique combination of know-how, talent and creativity that is the envy of many other communities.”

When it came to making its project a reality, Gameloft turned to Montréal International and Investissement Québec for assistance. The company will be awarded a non-refundable contribution of $1.3 million, courtesy of the ESSOR program. From the very start, Investissement Québec has supported Gameloft in the development of its ambitious capital project, contributing its funding expertise and facilitating contacts with local economic development agencies.

“Expanding our Montréal facilities will give us an even more competitive position in one of the fastest-growing segments of the electronic game industry,” added Mario Poulin, General Manager of Gameloft Montréal/Toronto. “Every year, our company devotes a sizable portion of its sales revenue to R&D, and our Montréal team plays a crucial role in the implementation of new projects.”
