Fifty Years of Success for SOQUEM

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Société québécoise d’exploration minière (SOQUEM). Since its inception, SOQUEM has contributed significantly to the growth of Québec’s mining industry, resulting in the creation of over 1,000 permanent jobs and the implementation of more than 350 exploration projects.

“We are proud to celebrate SOQUEM’s golden anniversary. The past 50 years have been marked by numerous projects to which SOQUEM has contributed,” said Pierre Bertrand, President and CEO of SOQUEM. “Today, as it has from the start, SOQUEM devotes all its energy and passion to its mission of exploring, discovering and developing mining properties in Québec.”

Every year, SOQUEM is involved in some 40 exploration and development projects in the province. Its recent projects include Renard, a diamond mine, and Moblan, a lithium mine, both located north of Chibougamau.

Solid expertise and in-depth knowledge
Over the years, SOQUEM, which is recognized in the mining sector for its solid technical and professional expertise, has acquired an excellent reputation. In addition, it has a comprehensive database and an in-depth knowledge of the territory and its regulations. All these advantages allow SOQUEM to work on projects with high discovery potential.

The success of these projects is based mainly on the principle of partnership, which means pooling the strengths and knowledge of the mining industry’s main players, while sharing the risks inherent to exploration. Today, nearly 75% of SOQUEM’s projects are partnerships.
