Montréal, September 23, 2019 – Investissement Québec (IQ) announces the appointment of Hubert Bolduc as head of Investissement Québec International, a new division whose mission will be to attract direct foreign investment projects and increase exports in all of Québec’s regions.
Working closely with Québec’s many economic development players, including Montréal International and Québec International, the new entity will seek to maximize economic spinoffs and enhance Québec’s profile internationally.
To help boost Québec’s international trade, Hubert Bolduc will also work to align the efforts made internationally by the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation and the Ministère des Relations internationales, et de la Francophonie and its extensive network of delegations.
Since 2016, Hubert Bolduc has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of MI, Greater Montréal’s economy development agency. Under his guidance, his team surpassed itself, attracting record foreign investments of $2.5 billion, up 150% in the last three years. In addition, under his leadership, operating budgets and headcount both doubled. Finally, the private-sector contribution to the organization increased from $1 million to $3.5 million.
To facilitate the transition, Mr. Bolduc will take on his new duties while remaining as MI’s President and CEO until the end of 2019. He will ensure an orderly transition until the board of directors has identified his successor.
“I’m very enthusiastic about the idea of developing Québec’s economy as I had the privilege of doing for Greater Montréal in the last few years by increasing foreign direct investment. We have everything we need to attract the largest, best-performing corporations in the world. Our access to markets thanks to our many free trade agreements, our well-stocked talent pool, our cost competitiveness, our quality of life and many other factors place Québec in an enviable position,” stated Hubert Bolduc.
“Hubert Bolduc’s arrival at IQ International will make a huge contribution to mobilizing our business development teams. His knowledge of the organization as a former IQ employee and his extensive experience attracting foreign direct investments at MI will be essential to coordinate efforts and enable Québec to do even better internationally,” noted Guy LeBlanc, President and Chief Executive Officer of Investissement Québec.
“Our government wants to be more effective and aggressive in seeking out foreign investments, with large corporations, in head offices and with the best consultants. Hubert’s experience and expertise, acquired in both the private and public sectors, make him the best candidate to entrust with these new strategic responsibilities for our government,” said the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Pierre Fitzgibbon.
